Whirlwind Weekend

We started off the weekend with a healthy start, as we ran/walked a 4.6 mile coastal trail near our home. We started with the little ones in the stroller, but soon Caleb got antsy and wanted out. Once he was out he just ran. He got a sizable distance in front us, before I decided to run ahead and catch up. As I did, he announced "run mommy". I did, and it felt great. As he started to slow, I would slow to a walk. He wouldn't have that, and he would say again "run mommy". I couldn't believe how a 4 year old could push me to keep up the pace. I found myself a new running buddy. The weather started to warm and we finished the loop back at our car.

After a light lunch, and playing with the puppy, we headed to a "Strawberry Festival" in a nearby city. The kids enjoyed some fair rides, and gigantic strawberry shortcakes. We finished up the day with the "Super Slide" and tired kiddies and mommy and daddy.

Sunday was a relaxing day, with a waffle breakfast and Dave and I subbing in Nursery for some friends. That evening we enjoyed a yummy BBQ steak dinner with all the fixins.

Monday we packed up and headed to the beach. It was suppose to be an overcast day with highs in the 60's. We weren't there more than a half hour, before the sun peeked out and it turned into a beautiful sunny day. The kids had fun digging holes, and playing in the waves. I enjoyed having my sweetie by my side, and another adult to converse with. By the time we left it was in the 80's. We came home for snacks and red, white, and blue popsicles (very festive!!), and noisy messy poppers that the boys loved. We had another nummy BBQ with homemade huge hamburgers that are making me hungry just thinking about them.

It was a wonderful weekend of family time.
(and I do have pics, but I'll have to post those tomorrow, so stay tuned!!)

Yay Weekend!!

It's here, the weekend, and I'm so so ready. It's been a crazy week with much a happenin, so I'm looking forward to just playing with my family. If I tackle a few projects, even better!!

We're starting off this wonderful Memorial Day weekend with a run/walk at the beach. They have this great path that is right on the beach, but just up from the "beach sand" that has a rougher surface. Perfect for a jogging stroller, mountain bike, and a few kids bikes thrown in. We should be a sight to see. Then packed lunches, and naps for the little ones (I wish I was little, I want a nap too). Then errands to run, and back home for BBQ and movie night. Sweet and simple, but so wonderful.

Our Memorial Day plans are still a bit undecided. There are many events happening in our fair little town, especially that we are right next to Camp P. I really want the kids to take something special from this day, as do I.

Have a wonderful weekend, and please remember those brave men and women that gave their lives so that we can enjoy the many freedoms that we have today.

It's like Christmas

Before I get started don't you just love the patriotic theme. Memorial Day so often gets forgotten, except of course for the three day weekend. So instead of just remembering our valiant soldiers on that day, I decided to think of them and honor them in special ways this whole week. More on that later..

So, today feels special. There is something in the air. It's like Christmas, and Santa and his sleigh are delivering a brand new super lush and plush king size bed for my honey and me, and a new bunkbed for the boys.

I've spent all weekend and the start of this week cleaning my bedroom of all the clothes and wonderful toys the kids have hid in there. It is now cleaned and vacuumed, along with their room. This morning I am cleaning the front room, and going through all those piles on my dining room table. I mean Santa (delivery man) only deserves our little house to be it's cleanest when he makes his delveries. What if he was dissapointed with the sight, and decided not to leave them in my care. No, no I must put my best foot forward.

Plus that means that before the weekend the upstairs, and downstairs would be spic and span, and since I finally finished the last load of laundry, I could play all weekend if I wanted, and relax in the luxury of my tidy little house.

Lots to do this morning, but by late this afternoon our gifts will have arrived, and you can bet I'll be enjoying a well deserved nap on my brand new bed (if the kid's let me that is!!)

Productive Weekend

Last weekend found us busy. With celebrating Caleb's 4th Birthday, and enjoying a relaxing Mother's Day at home, we had some wonderful family time. We didn't however get too much crossed off our ever increasing T0 Do list.

This weekend was a very different story.

We started the day off early with some yard work, and Dave was able to tackle the weeds that had grown out of control on the perimeter of the lawn. I squeezed in a hair appointment, can you believe I haven't had my hair cut since last year!! (Note to self: Be better about this!!)

We ordered a new bunkbed for the boys off of craigslist that will be delivered this week. It has a trundle, so we can have all three boys in the same room, and then someday when we have more rooms, it can be used for sleepovers and kid guests. We also picked up a twin mattress, toddler mattress, and boogie boards for this summer's beach camping trip. I so love craigslist! Oh, and all for under $50 (bunkbed not included)

We then threw the kids in the car and ventured out for some more errands. We finally stopped at a nearby mall to let the kids stretch their legs, and grab a bite to eat. Dave has been interested in getting a new BBQ that does both gas and charcol so we thought we'd check out the selection at Sears. Unfortunately, they didn't have much to look at, so I ventured over to the selection of beds, while Dave and the kids checked out the sporting goods section. The saleslady was amazing and so helpful, she had me try a gazillion beds, and at first, they all felt amazing. Then I really started to notice a difference. So long story short, we got an amazing deal and bought a new, very nice, and needed bed for ourselves. Our current one is almost 12 years old, and we can now cross this off our To Do list.

We feel so good getting things that we need, and have actually budgeted for. It felt so good paying cash for all the above items. Now I have even more incentive to get rid of some items in our own garage and throw some of our stuff on craigslist for some cash-o-la!!

I can't wait to sleep on my brand new bed, and get the boy's room all set up for them.

I still need to make a quilt for Natalie's toddler bed, but

we're at least one step closer!!

Caleb turns 4!!

My little guy turned 4 on Monday. I can hardly believe it. This morning he crawled up on me to snuggle. I can remember when his little body fit on my chest, and I would smell his sweet baby scent, and listen to him as he slept. He was such a little angel, and an amazingly good baby.

He is now a busy little boy, with a tender heart, an amazing abundance of energy, and is super inquisitive. He makes us laugh constantly with his silly little quips and observations. He seems to learn something new everyday, and is a great little helper. Sometimes he makes messes, just so he can help clean them up. What a great little guy!! (tinge of sarcasm there) He loves to help me in the kitchen, whether washing dishes or preparing dinner. He also loves his Daddy's tools, and is quite skilled in taking out screws all over the house.

As much as this little mischief maker keeps me busy, he also warms my heart, and reminds me how lucky I am to be his mother. I love my boys so much, and they are growing up to be little men. I feel so blessed to raise them, and teach them to be strong good, faithful men.

Happy Birthday Caleb, you have such a special place in my heart.

Home again, home again, jiggety jig.

After a wonderful trip back to Utah to visit with family, and pick up puppies, we started this week off a day short. The kids returned back to school on Tuesday, and the rest of us tried to return to our crazy version of normal. Here it is another Saturday, and I'm not sure what happened to this week. Has it really gone by so fast?

Let's see..

  • On Monday we had a great drive home. It's been forever since we've tried to make it all in one shot, but with the puppies we really couldn't break up the trip. It was wonderful. We stopped every 2-3 hours for a 15 minute break, and the kids got out of their seats and were able to stretch their legs. We had lunch at a cute park in Mesquite, and dinner at a not so cute park in Rancho Cucamonga. The entire trip took about 12 hours, about 2 hours longer than normal, but we arrive home happy, which was worth every stop!!

  • Tuesday, we enjoyed wonderful food as we celebrated Cinco de Mayo. I so love carnitas, and super tasty guacamole. We also were blessed with a new little cousin for the kids. My brother and his wife welcomed their first baby, Grady Dylan later that evening.

  • Wednesday brought beautiful sunny weather and catching up on laundry. For scouts that afternoon the boys enjoyed playing in the surf and sand as they boogie boarded, skim boarded and surfed.

  • Thursday brought more suuny weather and the kids and I enjoyed watermelon outside while they and the puppy ran through the sprinklers.

  • Friday, really already? I thought it would be fun to plan a trip to Disneyland after Dave's work. He took off a little early and we spent the evening at California Adventure. We had a great, relaxing time. It seemed that most of the crowds were at D-land, so we enjoyed some short lines, and had fun running around and some great family time.

  • Saturday has barely begun, but we have lots in store. Mommy will start the day with a pedicure (Mother's Day present) and then to enjoy a family birthday for Caleb. Filled with the zoo, railroad, and maybe even a pony ride. More on that later!! There are balloons to get, a Wall-E cake to make and some picking up to do before our visitors arrive, better get goin'

Utah and Puppies

First, I should probably explain the reason for our trip. Last fall my parents beloved Abbie past away. For the past few months they have been looking for a new border collie puppy, without much luck. I thought of contacting Dave's Uncle Dick who has a farm in Ephraim and has had BC litters in the past. It just so happened that he had two litters, and they were ready to be sold. My parents were unable to make the trek anytime soon, and Dave was in desperate need of a little vacation. So we decided to take a 4 day weekend, travel to Utah, see family and get my parents a puppy, oh and we might as well get one for ourselves

Thursday afternoon we started our road trip to Utah. I packed up the car, waited for Daniel to get home, and then we picked up Dave from work. Unfortunately, even though the hour was early we still ended up getting stuck in some sluggish traffic. It took us a bit longer than usual, but we found our hotel in Mesquite and caught some zzz's.

The kids were up bright and early the next morning, and we were dressed and out of the hotel before 8am. They were a bit anxious to get to Utah and see puppies, grandparents, and cousins. We arrived shortly after lunch and unpacked the car, and caught our breath.

Then we made our way to the farm to pick up the puppies. The kids had a blast playing with the puppies and their parents who were all so sociable. Josh was in awe by an enormous cow pattie that he found, and Natalie got quite dirty playing on the farm. It started to rain, so we packed up the puppies and then made our way back to Gordon & Marcia's. The puppies were fast asleep so we enjoyed dinner at G&M ward for a Mexican Fiesta. The food was great, and the kids finished up the evening with a pinata, and some candy for their pockets.

After we got back we played with the puppies and enjoyed some time with cousins and Andy & Jennie. The kids are having so much fun playing with the puppies and cousins, and we are enjoying the spring weather and a bit of relaxing in Utah.
